5.12.6. Removal and installation of the thermostat

Need for removal of the thermostat can arise for its replacement at unstable temperature condition of the engine — an overheat or insufficient warming up.
For check of the thermostat on the car launch the cold engine and touch the top (bringing) radiator hose — it has to be cold. After temperature of cooling liquid reaches 80–85 °C, the hose has to begin to heat up quickly that indicates the beginning of circulation of liquid on a big contour. If it does not occur, remove the thermostat and check its working capacity.
The thermostat has a non-demountable design therefore at failure it is replaced assembled.
It will be required to you: all tools necessary for removal of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism, and also a key "on 13", the screw-driver.
1. Merge liquid from the cooling system (see. "Replacement of cooling liquid").
2. Take off a belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering (see. "Replacement of a belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering").
3. Take off a conditioner compressor drive belt (see. "Replacement of a belt of the drive of the compressor of the conditioner").
4. Take off a belt of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism (see. "Replacement and adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism and replacement of its tension roller").
5. Remove a back cover of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism (see. "Removal and installation of the oil pump").
6. Turn out two bolts of fastening of a cover of a nest of the thermostat …
7. … also take a cover aside, without disconnecting from it a hose.
8. Having hooked the screw-driver, take from a nest in a head of the block of cylinders the thermostat together with a rubber sealing ring.
9. Remove a sealing ring from the thermostat. Replace a ring at each removal of the thermostat.
10. Install a sealing ring on the new thermostat and install the thermostat in a nest.
11. Establish a nest cover, having cleared privalochny surfaces of a head of the block of cylinders and a cover of oxides and pollution.

GOOD ADVICE
Before installation of a cover of the thermostat apply a sealant layer on its flange.

12. Establish a belt of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism and adjust its tension (see. "Replacement and adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the gas-distributing mechanism and replacement of its tension roller").
13. Establish details as it should be, the return to removal.
14. Adjust a tension of belts of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering (see. "Check and adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the generator and pump of the hydraulic booster of steering"), and also the conditioner compressor (see. "Check and adjustment of a tension of a belt of the drive of the compressor of the conditioner").
15. Fill in cooling liquid and remove air traffic jams from the cooling system (see. "Replacement of cooling liquid").
